Magazine Scouting
Here's how the home submission process works:

E-mail me at kathrynbechen@yahoo.com if you are interested and give me a short description of your home/garden/playhouse etc.

After I review your e-mail, if I request photos, please e-mail me 15-20 high resolution digital photos of your home including long shots of all rooms that are magazine ready, plus shots of the outside and any attractive landscaping or gardens. Be sure to get closeups of any defining architectural features inside such as clever storage built-ins, fixtures, antique lights etc. and any outdoor garden features/vignettes that are unique.

I will review your photos and if appropriate, submit them to the magazines.

It can take months to over a year from the time the magazine decides to use a home until actual publication in the magazine.

If a magazine is interested in your home, they may want to send a professional photographer and photo stylist to your home for at least a day. If so, the magazine will contact you to set that up.

Once at your home, the photographer and stylist will work their magic by moving a few things around to set up decorative vignettes and showcase your home in its best light based on their editorial needs. The stylist will also bring a few of her own props such as pillows and throws etc. You can see photos and my diary of an actual professional photo shoot on my blog.

The crew will put everything back so that at the end of the shoot, your home looks as it was before they started. My homeowners always tell me they are pleased with the fun and professional crew and enjoy the day. All you have to do is have fun!

After the photographic shoot day is over, I will call you to interview you and/or your mate on the phone and write the feature story. Writing features is my specialty and I absolutely LOVE writing these stories and will do my very best to make you and your home shine!

Homeowners do not receive monetary payment, but you are given any flowers and plants used during the styling process and several copies of the magazine to share with your family and friends.

Once published, your article may also be listed on my website writing samples page and/or blog.
